Wagon Travels is a Sri Lanka travel specialist backed by 33 private vehicles, our own Wagon Inns accommodation in Anuradhapura, and a team on the ground that knows this island deeply. wagontravels.com
Wagon Travels grew from deep roots in Sri Lankan transport. What began as wagoncabs.lk – a vehicle rental platform built around a genuine understanding of how people move across this island – evolved, through deliberate study and personal commitment, into something more complete: a full Sri Lanka travel company offering private tours, vehicle rentals and our own accommodation under one roof. The journey from transport to travel was not a random pivot. It was built on infrastructure – 33 vehicles, Wagon Inns in Anuradhapura, years of road knowledge across every region – and on a conviction that Sri Lanka deserves to be experienced properly, by people who actually know it.
Wagon Travels operates a fleet of 33 vehicles – from compact cars to large group transport – and every transfer on a Wagon journey uses one of them. Nothing is outsourced to a third-party driver, a hired vehicle or an unknown operator. Our vehicles are maintained by our own team, our drivers are vetted and experienced, and the standard of every transfer – from airport pickup to national park jeep safari – reflects the same care we bring to every other element of your journey. For travellers who want the freedom to explore independently, self-drive rental is available through the Vehicle Rentals page.
Wagon Inns is Wagon Travels’ own accommodation in Anuradhapura – a warm, considered place to rest at the heart of Sri Lanka’s most ancient city. Built and managed by the same team behind your tour and your transport, Wagon Inns removes every gap in the journey at this stop: the accommodation is vetted because we built it, the staff are connected because they are part of the same team, and the experience of arriving here after a day in the ancient city carries the particular ease that comes from knowing someone has arranged everything with genuine care. When transport and accommodation are managed by the same company, the journey coheres in a way that assembled itineraries rarely achieve.
Every route, every accommodation recommendation, every guide relationship and every safari operator we work with is built entirely around one island. We are not a regional operator with a Sri Lanka tab – we are a Sri Lanka company, with the depth of focus that single specialisation produces.
Wagon Travels operates 33 vehicles and every transfer on a Wagon journey uses one of them. Not outsourced. Not a third party. Your vehicle arrives on time because it belongs to us and the driver who brings it answers to us.
In Anuradhapura, travellers on Wagon journeys stay at Wagon Inns – accommodation designed, built and run by the same team. No middleman between the tour designer and the property. The experience of having the same company manage your transport and your accommodation is something that once experienced, most travellers tell us they’d want on every trip.
Wagon Travels is a company with real people, real vehicles and a real property behind every journey we sell. We are not a booking platform that assembles third-party services. Every element of what we offer has been built, maintained or personally vetted by our team.
No two journeys leave Wagon Travels looking the same. Every itinerary begins with a genuine conversation about how you travel – your interests, your pace, your group, your budget – and ends as something that was built for you specifically.
Every route we build is checked against the reality of travelling it – actual drive times, seasonal logic, park opening windows and the practical details that separate a journey that reads well from one that actually works. The engineering instinct behind this company is visible in how we plan.
Wagon Travels tells clients what their journey will actually involve – including early starts, longer driving days and the seasonal limitations that affect certain destinations at certain times of year. We would rather set accurate expectations than manage disappointment.
Sri Lankan-founded, Sri Lanka-based, Sri Lanka-focused. Our knowledge of this island comes from living and working here – from the road, not from a desk in another country reading about it.
Wildlife ethics, community respect and environmental care are built into how Wagon Travels operates – as a practical standard, not as a marketing position. We do not work with operators who compromise on animal welfare, and we expect the same standards from everyone in our supply chain.
If none of our listed tours quite match what you have in mind, you’re in the right place. Bring us your dates, your interests and your group — and we’ll design a journey from scratch.
